This is the Type 117 (Retarded) tail fin from a British 1000 lb General Purpose Aircraft Bomb. It is designed so when when dropped from low level, the fins open up to form a parachute and delay the time taken to hit the ground, allowing sufficient time for the aircraft to leave the danger area.
I picked it up while on holiday in Norfolk in August 2008.
