This picture drawn by Sergeant A. Fennell of the RMIJ depicts the Royal Militia Island of Jersey embarking on the SS Hodder berthed at the Albert pier Jersey. The Hodder sailed from Jersey at 1500hrs on the 20th June 1940 with 11 Officers and 193 Other Ranks. This was the first time in history that the Royal Militia Island of Jersey had sailed from the Island as a unit. Also on board were a number of civilians, including wives and children of Officers and Other Ranks. At about 0900hrs on the 21st June the Hodder dropped anchor in Southampton Water.
