Sergeant Frederick Perkins was sent to France on 10th August 1914. He received a Mention in Despatches on 1st January 1916, again in 1918 and again in 1919. On 9th November 1916 he was awarded an immediate Meritorious Service Medal.
Upon his return to the United Kingdom the then Sergeant Major Perkins was stationed at the Royal Victoria Hospital, Netley, where he served as the Chief Confidential Clerk to Colonel George A. Moore MD and then to Colonel E.P. Sewell until his retirement from the army in 1924/25.
