French Red Cross Medal 1914-1918, Serbian Red Cross Medal 1914-18, BRCS Medal for Merit, BRCS Proficiency in Air Raid Precautions & BRCS Proficiency in Red Cross Nursing.
Mrs Daphne Gertrude Newbold served with the British Red Cross Society from 18th September 1939 until 1945. During this time she was a member of the London No.90 Volunteer Aid Detachment, serving at St Marks First Aid Post (1st October 1939 to 15th December 1944) and the American Red Cross Club (1st February 1945 to 29 December 1945)
Research has shown that Mrs Newbold was previously Miss Daphne Gertrude Persse, born 27th June 1889 and who served with the YMCA and the French Red Cross during the First World War. she was awarded to British War Medal and the Victory Medals from Great Britain and the above Red Cross medals from France and Serbia.
She married Charles Joseph Newbold on 27th September 1924. Charles Newbold served during the First World War with the Royal Engineers as a Lieutenant, he was Mentioned in Despatches and subsequently promoted over the years to Lt Colonel and awarded a Distinguished Service Order (DSO) to compliment his 1914-15 Star, British War and Victory Medals. Charles Newbold died on the 26th October 1946.
The location of Miss Persse's WW1 medals, her BRCS Three Year Badge from 1942 and Lt Colonel Newbolds' war medals are currently unknown.
