This badge was worn by Other Ranks of the RJLI between 1902 and 1946. The badges marked on the reverse 'J.R. Gaunt' are copies as Gaunt did not manufacture these cap badges for the RJLI. Note variant with Leopards facing the wrong way, these were made during the Second World War from unissued collar badges which were no longer being worn. (It is NOT, as quoted in some books and websites "A belated tribute to heraldic precepts"
